Think of continuous launching instead of a one-time launch.
When should I launch? Answer? NOW
Putting the product out there is a good way to assess whether someone would use the product even in an unpolished state. It shows if the product is solving a problem or not.
What's the worst that could happen?
Competitors may see it.
Or no one would care.
Or no one would see it at all.
Investors may see it before it's in full glory...
All the above doesn't matter; the recommendation is to launch again! Reiterate, Launch and reiterate until you have a base of users.
"It's better to make a few people happy than to make a lot of people semi-happy" Paul Buchheit (YC Partner)
Launching early on will help founders determine what users like about the product and how they can improve it. It will also help them interact with different audiences and fine-tune the product.
Clarity in one sentence!
Next, create a one-sentence pitch based on clarity of vision. A clear idea is the best foundation for growth, and word of mouth will spread this sentence along and increase growth! To grow, we need people to help spread the word virally, and they can do this with a simple, clear sentence about the product.
The one-sentence pitch should answer the question - What? And not 'why'. The sentence should be conversational, clear, concise and informative.
It should have no meaningless jargon, and it shouldn't be a ramble.
Airbnb's example: "We built the first online marketplace that lets travellers book rooms with locals instead of hotels
Types of launches
Silent Launch
Friends and family - share the product with them, watch them use it, and get feedback, but don't stay for too long cos F & F may not be the appropriate users.
Launching for strangers - the more you talk to them, the more you learn about actual problems.
Launch to communities - but research what those communities will be interested in.
Social media launch - Post on socials, build up interest and engagement
Waitlist launch - the longer the waitlist and onboarding, the longer it is to convert customers.
Press - It cannot sustain growth
Build your community whilst on the journey of your start-up. Launch is not a one-time thing; it's best to launch it over and over to build engagement and interest and potential users who will convert to customers!
